HTML or HyperText Markup Language is the standard markup language used to create most web pages.Â
HTML is comprised of HTML elements. Â These consist of tags enclosed in angle brackets - for example: <table>, <br>, <div>.Â
A web browser can read HTML files and render them into visible web pages. The browser does not display the HTML tags, but uses them to interpret the content of the page (If this scares you, use Word. For more information see the  Standard letters using Word chapter).
Expert Agent uses HTML templates for a variety of purposes, including: Emails; Reports; Invoices; Statements.
We have a number for default templates for each of these, that are accessible via Tools > Configuration > Output Configuration > Templates, and selecting the Expert Agent Default Letters tab.
Previously, HTML was used primarily for letters and brochures. However since the introduction of Wordlink this is no longer recommended.
As with anything, HTML has its pros and cons.Â
Pros |
Cons |
Highly customisable |
Due to the technical background, issues can be difficult to diagnose and resolve with little understanding of HTML. |
When used correctly can be highly efficient. |
Each web browser renders the same HTML differently, which can result in drastic change to layout / format. |
 |
We are unable to provide training of HTML. |

Please Note: This chapter is included for the benefit of customers that already use HTML within Expert Agent – new customers should use our Wordlink format for letter and brochure templates. If you have any queries in relation to this, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.
